Cycling

Using a bicycle, particularly in congested urban areas, could bring you all sorts of benefits.

Here are four reasons for considering cycling as a means of travel:

  • Keeps you fit and healthy, and helps to reduce stress
  • Saves money compared to owning a car
  • Improves the environment as a non-polluting mode of transport
  • Eliminates the hassle of trying to find a car parking space

Around Northampton:

Northampton has a network of off-road cycle ways and on-road advisory routes, including part of National Cycle Network route number 6. Cycle routes can be found by using Northamptonshire County Council's cycle leaflets and maps.

The relative proximity of the University campuses does allow for inter-campus cycling, although there is an incline between them:

  • Park and Avenue Campus are 2 miles apart.
  • Park and Avenue Campus are both 1 mile from Kingsthorpe village shops & supermarkets.
  • Park Campus is 3 miles and Avenue Campus is 1 mile from Northampton town centre.

On Campus:

The University has over 350 cycle spaces across both campuses, including some secure racking (keys available from the Finance Department for a £5 returnable deposit). Please note that bicycles are not permitted inside University residential accommodation.

If you are cycling during the hours of darkness, please ensure that your bicycle has both front and rear lights lit.
Bicycles should not be ridden on pavements. Please be considerate to other road users and pedestrians.
