Profile

Judith Knight trained as an Occupational Therapist at Dorset House School of Occupational Therapy in Oxford (now Oxford Brooks). She has a BA from the Open University and a MSc in Occupational Therapy from Exeter University.

She spent twenty years in practice in a variety of health and social care settings, which included trauma rehabilitation, care of the elderly, social services and elderly mentally ill. Much of her later work involved the development of new occupational therapy services in social services and mental health for older people. During this time she also developed practice education opportunities in these areas and became interested in occupational therapy education.

In 1990 she entered occupational therapy education at St Andrew's School of Occupational Therapy as the Practice Co-ordinator. Initially her primary interest was in experiential learning in the practice setting, which involved monitoring students' learning, revising the practice assessment and forming links with clinicians in many parts of the country. Currently she is a senior lecturer on the BSc and advanced occupational therapy programmes. Her main teaching interests are occupational science and professional reasoning. Her main research interests are in the occupational lives of older people. She is the team leader for the 'Older People as Occupational Beings' research group and is registered PhD student investigating the changes in occupational identity that occur in later life.
