Qualifications
MSc (Social Research Methods), BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing, Certificate in Adult Education (CERT Ed), Registered Mental Nurse (RMN). Motivational Interviewer Trainer (MINT 2007).
Profile
Tania has 20 years experience in mental health nursing having worked in various clinical setting in the mental health field. In more recent years Tania practiced as a clinical nurse specialist in the field of children's eating disorders.
In September 2003, Tania joined the School of Health as a senior Lecturer within the Mental Health Nursing Team. Tania teaches on a wide variety of subjects on the pre registration nursing course; continuing her specialist interest and knowledge in the field adolescent mental health and eating disorders and also developing new interests in the field of primary mental health care and brief psychological therapy, such as solution focused therapy and motivational interviewing. Tania is presently working closely with 'Changing Minds' in Northamptonshire helping to train practitioners in the field of primary mental health care by developing and writing distance learning interactive material and delivering workshops.
Tania course leads the Post Graduate Certificate in Primary Health Care which equips students for the new vocational role of Primary Care Graduate Worker and since being involved in this programme Tania has taken an active interest in researching this new workforce initiative and has presented and published work in this area.
In 2007 Tania obtained a teaching fellowship for work investigating how emotional intelligence can be promoted in the pre registration nursing curriculum by addressing more rigorously student attitude. Tania's continues her work in this area.
Research Interests
- New ways of working and new roles in primary care.
- Short term psychological intervention such as solution focused therapy and motivational interviewing and how these therapies can be utilised by primary care practitioners.
- Enhancing pre registration nursing student emotional intelligence by addressing attitude.
