Dr Gillespie received his undergraduate degree from the University of Windsor (Canada), his MSc. From the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and his doctorate from the Ohio State University. He has lectured at universities in Canada, the United States, Morocco and the United Kingdom, and has been in his present role as Principal Lecturer and Field Leader at the University of Northampton since 2006.
Research Interests
Dr Gillespie's area of academic interest is adapted physical activity. More specifically, his research and scholarly activity are focused on issues associated with physical activity, fitness and motor skill acquisition among individuals with intellectual disabilities. Current projects include:
- Validity of two physical activity instruments for persons with intellectual disabilities
- Walking patterns of adults with intellectual disabilities
- Use of accelerometers to determine activity intensity levels of athletes with disabilities
