Professor Hugh Matthews is Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer and inaugural Dean of the Graduate School at The University of Northampton. He leads an administration responsible for developing and fulfilling the University’s research, consultancy and business development portfolio. He is working towards ensuring a doubling of research and knowledge transfer income over the next five years and ensuring that the University is fully regionally engaged. A geographer by training, he has a first class honours degree and a PhD from the University of Wales. Author of over 200 published papers, books and research reports, Hugh has an international reputation for his studies on children and young people. Currently, he is Director of the internationally acclaimed Centre for Children and Youth, inaugural Editor of the peer-reviewed journal – Children’s Geographies (Routledge), member of the International Editorial Board of the Journal of Geography in Higher Education (Taylor & Francis) and past Chair of the UK research group on children, youth and their families.
