'STUDENT ALCOHOL (MIS)USE' CONFERENCE
30th March 2010

REGISTRATION   SUBMISSION   PROGRAMME   USEFUL INFORMATION

Welcome …..

…… to the 'Student Alcohol (Mis)Use' Conference website.  The conference will be held at the Sunley Management Centre, The University of Northampton, Northampton on Tuesday 30th March 2010.

How to find us...

This is a one-day conference supported by the Alcohol and Education Research Council [AERC] and the Alcohol Research Council for East Midlands [ARCEM].

THE AIM OF THE CONFERENCE ….

….. is to bring together all those interested in issues related to students' use of alcohol.    It is convened by researchers at the University of Northampton who have been undertaking research into students' use of alcohol, on a project entitled 'Student Choices and Alcohol Matters' funded by the AERC.  The findings will be disseminated as part of the conference but we welcome additional contributions from others working in this field.   We expect the conference to provide insights into students' alcohol-related perceptions and behaviour, the way in which alcohol use affects the educational establishments and their local communities, how institutions and community agencies manage the issues arising from student alcohol use and how the educational institutions, student unions, and community agencies could work together to reduce the harmful effects of alcohol use by students.

The themes of the conference will include:

alcohol issues within educational institutions and their local communities
the nature of students (mis)use of alcohol
the culture of student drinking and 'binge' drinking in general
policies and strategies in managing student drinking and its effects
the community and regional context of student use of alcohol
therapeutic approaches to students with alcohol problems

The conference should appeal to ….

…… academics and researchers with interests in this field; education administrative and support staff; therapists and counsellors involved with students; and those with interests in students/young people's alcohol use in local authorities, the police, the NHS, the not-for profit sector and the alcohol trade.
